NASOA Membership Meeting

Meeting began at 6:00 pm.  There were 43 members present

Minutes: 23 January 2012 meeting minutes, were accepted as written 

President

• Future meetings:  NASOA will meet at FCC Feb 6 and 13; Feb 20 we will meet at Merrimack
• 2 new members introduced
• Pat Miller was present to receive his Official of Year for Northwest District, he also worked State Finals last spring
• HS Uniforms:       
• Displayed primary color for those in attendance – Fuchsia
• AJ Hicks will submit order this week
• Socks for HS – three stripe – see Klaus Staefe will have some for purchase next week’s meeting

• District items/concerns

1) Referees found out of uniform, a possible 2 week suspension levied

• Association Expectations -

1) Show-up on time ---be honest in game reports, if crew members are late, report this.  Those refs that continue to show up late (5 times) will be fined $5.00

2) Send-offs/ Red cards --- If you have any leave message with Justin and JR. there numbers are:

a. Justin: 256-468-2368

3) Issues with Coaches --- Call Justin and leave details in comments section Arbiter.

High School: JR Burnett

• JR circulated a list of HS refs; he asked that they indicate interest in MSSL matches and/or HS
• Please begin to set your blocks
• Assignments will come out by Thursdays prior to the week of assignment- SET BLOCKS BY PRIOR TUESDAY –
• Many matches start at 4:30pm – be at match 30 minutes ahead of start-consider this when setting your blocks
• Please forward any request regarding matches:
• Schools near you work location,
• If you have a group you would like to work with
• Are you willing to drive distance?
• Other preferences
• This Saturday Sparkman HS is conducting scrimmage matches, need about 6 refs to cover – contact JR if interested – these are not paid
• JR has a couple of MS matches this weekend as well
• MSSL will be using HS rules – 35 min half

FUTSAL re-cert clinic to be held 4 Feb at FCC 9am – 2pm

Instruction:  Justin Brown

          Justin covered details regarding HS pre-game activities.  He simulated what he does during a pre-game briefing with crew.  He covered game situations, field items, bench management etc…Klaus added the pre-game items such as coin toss, player checks and coaches instructions, clock operator discussions.

          Justin discussed other topics: Abusive and insulting language; physical differences in players participating in HS matches. 

Differences between the Boys and girls matches were discussed by Assessor Kris Bailey.  Must be aware—the girls match can be a very difficult match if you are not aware of the differences in play; so be careful and pay attention.

Assessments:  Justin/ Klaus

1) District Observers ---District director and/or other observers may observe you during matches; they will give you a score, if you have concerns contact Justin.  Do not argue with observers if you don’t agree, JUST LISTEN!  Call Justin or JR after match.

2) NASOA Observation process – Board members will be assigned to observe member referees.  Klaus Staefe described how observers will use a standard form; when observation is complete, you will receive a copy.  Observers will not discuss observations with you at half-time unless you request it.  Please allow 15-20 minutes after match for discussion – in order to get full benefit you must make yourself available.
